Foundation for Inner Peace (FIP)

The Foundation for Inner Peace (FIP) is in essence the original home for A Course in Miracles.

Initially known as the Foundation for ParaSensory Investigation it then changed its name to the Foundation for Inner Peace.  It’s been led by its founder, Judy Skutch for over thirty years.

FIP history

This not-for-profit organisation came into existence in the early 1970s.  Origninally know as the  Foundation for ParaSensory Investigation.  The name was soon changed at Helen’s request.  Helen Schucman didn’t feel it was appropriate for the Course to be associated with anything associated with the paranormal.

Asking for guidance, Bill Thetford, Helen, Judith Skutch and Kenneth Wapnick chose to rename it as the Foundation for Inner Peace.   This new name satisfied Helen and seemed much more appropriate for the Course.

Publishing ACIM

Publishing the huge ACIM manuscript was a huge undertaking.  Firstly Judy Skutch printed some Xeroxed copies to share with close friends.  Realising she couldn’t keep up with demand, Judy began to publish A Course in Miracles professionally through FIP.

Teaching the Course

In 1978 Helen Schucman received guidance that the Foundation for Inner Peace should also teach the material.  This seemed like an ideal opportunity for Kenneth Wapnick.

Ken started disseminating the information and eventually set up a teaching organisation called The Foundation for A Course in Miracles (FACIM).  This organisation still works closely with FIP.

FACIM is now the official holder of the copyright and the publisher of ACIM today.  It has very close links with FIP.

Foundation for Inner Peace today

The FIP is devoted to its translation programme.  Currently around 93% of the world’s population is able to read ACIM in their own language.  The Foundation for Inner Peace is today located at Tiburon in California.
